Have you ever thought about buying a Persian Rug? If not, then it seems like you are not familiar with all the astonishing facts about these pieces of art, craftsmanship and investment.
We all know what makes a great interior: fantastic open spaces, lots of daylight, great furniture, good layout, colours that match, style mixing, minimalism, clean lines… The list could go on and on. However, one thing is sure – the accessories and the details you add to any interior are the elements that can change everything, and completely transforme the atmosphere, the purpose and the feeling in a room.

If you want to save your hardwood floors from scratching then you should definitely include a rug, especially in the kitchen, where there is a possibility for the dining chairs to scratch your floors, as well as next to the doors, or under the legs of your bed in your bedroom.
Not only that, but they are also great in saving our little ones from being injured if they fall while they are walking or playing in the house, and they are also amazing if you don’t want to wear your socks or slippers inside. Finally, it can save you from making loud noises if something falls on the floor, which can also be a lifesaver in many cases.
But are all rugs the same? Is there any difference between them? Well, according to many sources, there certainly is. And we’re not talking only about the design texture or size we’re talking about much more elements to it.
It’s Not Just Art, It’s History
If you ever wondered what makes Persian rugs so special, then you should know that that there is not one answer this question – there are at least 10! However, the first thing that needs to be mentioned is the rich history behind them. Maybe you can never connect history and rugs, but in this case the connection is inevitable.
The first thing you should know is that the Persian rug art is older than 2000 years. At first they were a matter of necessity, since the floors needed to be saved from dirt and cold. The art of rug making was passed down through generations and was a valuable skill to have. Through all the wars and changes in that part of the world, this art was introduced to the rest of the world as something special, and finally, it remained special to this day, but not only in Iran – they have become globally popular and recognized as not only a unique artwork, but also as a valuable asset to have.
In order to make one carpet, Persian artists need even a couple of years, which is a great indicator of the complexity and skill that’s needed for this process. They are usually made of silk, wool and cotton, so the only natural, high-end materials are being used for these items. But one of the most important aspects of Persian rugs is the fact that every rug is unique and completely different from all the other Persian rugs.
This is what makes them so valuable not only is it time-consuming to make them but it’s also rewarding because in the end you get get a rug that only you have – in the entire world!

1. It has to be handmade
The first thing you need to search for, is the description of the product. In the description, you must find something that says that the rug is handmade there are usually a couple of words such as handwoven, hand-knotted or handmade, and this is an important indicator because fake rugs are never been made by my hand there rather me by machines.
If there is no such label, you can be completely sure that you’re dealing with the fake one.
2. Follow the patterns
Although there no two similar Persian rugs in the world, there is a pattern you can follow if you’re not sure if it’s real or fake. However, this pattern just means that these rugs are never entirely perfect, since they’re being manufactured by real people, and since it’s a complex process, there will always be some small mistakes on the rug, and these small anomalies are exactly what you should be looking for.
On the other hand, mass-produced rugs are all completely the same, flawless, just like the clothes we’re wearing.
3. The materials are the number one
This is probably the easiest but also the clearest indicator of a real rug. We’ve already mentioned the three materials that are being used for making them, but we also need to add the forth – some of the Persian rugs also have gold threads in them! On the other hand, all the other brands are usually made from unnatural synthetic materials, therefore, the first thing you should do is to check the label and find out what is the rug made of, and if those materials are not natural – then it’s not a real one.
The other thing you can do is to simply touch the surface of the rug and if they’re made of natural materials, that would be much softer and more luxurious compared to the rugs you usually have a chance to see everywhere, which will automatically mean it’s an original.
